love them so
they last.
Bamboo gets softer with every wash — but only if you treat it right. Good news: the rules are simple, the chemistry is forgiving, and your machine on gentle is doing 90% of the work.
- Machine wash cold, gentle cycle.
- Tumble dry low, or air dry flat.
- Wash with similar colors the first time.
- Skip the fabric softener — bamboo doesn't need it.
- Skip bleach (chlorine or oxygen).
- Iron only if you must — low, on the reverse side.
wash. dry. fold. repeat.
wash cold, gentle
Cold water keeps the print bold and the fibers smooth. Gentle cycle protects the zipper from stress. Mesh laundry bag if you're feeling fancy.
tumble dry low
Low heat. Or air dry flat — bamboo doesn't fight gravity, so hanging is fine too. High heat is the only thing that'll shorten its life.
fold soft
No need to iron. Bamboo relaxes wrinkles in the wear. If you really want crisp edges, low heat on the reverse side, never on prints.
store dry
Make sure it's fully dry before stacking — bamboo holds moisture and you don't want musty drawers. Cedar blocks > moth balls every time.
do this. not that.
do this
- cold wash, gentle cycleBest for color retention and fiber integrity.
- oxygen-based stain removerSpot-treat with OxiClean or similar — much gentler than bleach.
- mesh laundry bagKeeps zippers from snagging on socks. Lifesaver in newborn loads.
- wash inside outEspecially the first 2–3 washes. Helps the print stay punchy.
- expect it to soften moreFully bamboo fabric breaks in like denim — it gets better, not worse.
don't do that
- fabric softenerCoats the fiber, kills breathability. Bamboo is already soft.
- chlorine bleachYellows the bamboo and weakens the fibers. Hard pass.
- high-heat dryWill shrink it faster than your patience at 3am.
- dry cleaningThe chemicals are way too harsh for fabric this close to baby skin.
- iron the print directlyLow heat, reverse side only. Otherwise the checker melts.
the stain cheat sheet ✦
Cold rinse immediately. Soak in cold water + a splash of oxygen-based stain remover for 30 min. Then wash gentle.
Rinse with cold water, ASAP. Spot-treat with stain remover. Sun-dry afterward — UV is your friend on protein stains.
Scrape off solids first. Cold soak, then wash. Berries are the toughest — pre-treat fast or accept the new tie-dye era.
Rinse cold immediately to neutralize. The longer it sits, the more it sets. A quick rinse buys you hours.
the wash holds.
the print holds.
If a Happy Skin Baby doesn't look as good at 47 washes as it did at 7, send it back — we'll replace it. That's our forever-deal.
